DSP for FPGAs Lab 1-1: The NCO

Available Now: The first video in an extensive instructional series about the use of FPGAs in digital signal processing.

First up, the Numerically Controlled Oscillator. NCO’s are an essential building block in digital signal processing functions. Used for signal generation, NCO’s can be used for modulation, frequency synthesizer references, and internal signal sources for heterodyning.

NCO’s are an absolute must have for software defined radio applications in FPGAs.

The following laboratory teaches the new user how to use the NCO core from Altera and perform analysis via the SignalTap Logic Analyzer and GNU Octave.
